Leak Survey, Damage Prevention, Cathodic Protection and Odorization Training

Class Description: 

• Damage prevention: Covered areas may include general DOT requirements, steps to safe excavations, tolerance zones, labeling of facilities, proper damage investigation, and documentation. 
• Leak survey: Covered areas may include various Leak Survey equipment and the procedures used in conducting leak surveys.
• Cathodic Protection: Covered areas may include the fundamentals of corrosion and cathodic protection and identify measures to prevent corrosion.
• Odorization: Covered areas may include the basic odorization processes and procedures, reasons for odorizing, and how to properly odorize a natural gas distribution system.

Joe Dziuban is a Technical Trainer for CenterPoint Energy Southern Gas Operations.  Joe is responsible for training new and existing field employees and has trained in the New Braunfels, Houston, and Shreveport training centers for the last two years. His previous roles include being a Service Technician in the San Marcos, Texas office and a supervisor for a natural gas contractor Baker Services where he supervised, trained, and evaluated all field employees in Texas and Oklahoma. Joe is a retired Air Force veteran where he spent his career in many roles including a Technical Trainer, Evaluator and Training Manager.  Some of his education includes associate degrees in Air and Space Operations Technology, Information Systems Technology and most recently earning his Certified Utility Safety Professional certification with a Gas endorsement.

Kelby Ross is a Technical Training Specialist within CenterPoint Energy’s SGO region. Kelby is responsible for facilitating training for all new hires entering the company throughout Year 1, 2, 3, & 4 GTECH courses. In addition to New Hire sessions, Kelby also trains existing employees with annual refreshers and conducts Plastic/Weld qualifications for SGO qualifiers. Kelby has over a decade of construction related experience and spent 7 years in the field performing construction activities and leading crews with CenterPoint Energy. Kelby spent his time in the field working throughout the San Marcos/Smithville area. With the explosive growth along the I-35 corridor, the San Marcos/Smithville area has been one of the fastest paced areas throughout the company, averaging over 100% of South Texas’s growth annually. Working within this fast paced environment, Kelby sharpened his skills with Emergency Response, Welding, Tapping & Stopping, Leak Repairs, Main/Service Install and Replacements, Work Order Management, Map Interpretations, and much more. As a Construction Tech subject matter expert, Kelby now shares his knowledge and experience with New Hires and serves as a role model to demonstrate the benefits of hard work and determination.
